Trio Ondata

A bold and exploratory young ensemble, Trio Ondata is drawn to the fringes of the classical repertoire, striving to cultivate spaces of close listening in a busy and loud world. Through an inquisitive approach defined by advocacy, dialogue, and thoughtful programming, Trio Ondata hopes to facilitate a connection with wide-ranging repertoire both old and new.

New England-based Trio Ondata is composed of violinist Michael Ferri, cellist Miriam Liske-Doorandish, and pianist Anthony Ratinov, who began playing together during their graduate studies at the Yale School of Music. Formed in 2021, The trio is dedicated to presenting music of the highest caliber from all eras, whether contemporary music by historically marginalized artists, obscure Haydn trios performed with Baroque bows, or underplayed works from composers who loom large in the canon. Trio Ondata has swiftly drawn attention on the national stage, winning Silver Medal as well as the inaugural Horszowski Trio Prize at the 2022 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. They won the Yale School of Music Chamber Music Competition the same year, and in the spring of 2023 received both the Gold Medal and Audience Choice Award at the Yellow Springs Chamber Music Competition for Emerging Ensembles.

Facilitated by their competition successes, the trio’s 2023 Summer highlights included the Emerging Artist Residency at Mimir Chamber Music Festival in Fort Worth, TX, and a generous residency in Boscawen, NH at the Avaloch Farm Music Institute which facilitated a deep dive into electroacoustic piano trio repertoire. Trio Ondata returned to both Mimir and Avaloch this summer, cultivating deeper community relationships alongside several new projects, including well-received debuts in Massachusetts and Georgia in August. This fall the trio looks forward to recording favorite works from past seasons, tours in Maryland and Virginia, their first vocal collaboration for a program of Beethoven and Haydn songs, and two commission projects with planned premieres in 2025/26.

Trio Ondata is particularly grateful for recent mentorship with the Horszowski Trio and their work with Mark Steinberg, Ani Kavafian, Boris Berman, and Paul Watkins while at the Yale School of Music. In counterpoint with their musical pursuits, the trio members are dedicated to community engagement, arts advocacy, LGBTQIA+ rights, the culinary arts, and the Great Outdoors.
